This contract was a fully Design and build contract to form a new orthotics workshop and main stores for the Hospital.
The construction of the building was a steel portal frame structure with insulated cladding panels to external walls and roof structure, containing clear sheet panels for extra light. The floor is an insulated reinforced concrete slab with thickenings to support the internal partition and separating walls. The building had upvc windows and entrance doors to the orthotics area and a steel roller door to the store area.
Internally the space is divided into two with a full height block wall partition, the orthotics area is then divided into workshops and office areas using solid blockwork walls. The workshops had benches built all around the perimeter of rooms to house the specialist machinery. The offices have vinyl sheet flooring and suspended ceilings, the workshop has hard wearing epoxy floor paint as does the stores area.
Externally a new car parking area was formed adjacent to the building.
The hospital was fully operational at all times and access to the site was through the main feeder road to all hospital departments, all deliveries had to be programmed carefully with the hospital site staff and accompanied with the aid of a banksman.
