It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our friend and former colleague, Elwyn Preece.
Elwyn was a hugely respected member of the Pave Aways team for many years, serving as one of our most senior site managers until his retirement in 2019. Over the course of his long and successful career, he played a central role in delivering countless projects across the region and was a generous mentor to many within our business.

Elwyn was a hugely respected member of the Pave Aways team for many years, serving as one of our most senior site managers until his retirement in 2019. Over the course of his long and successful career, he played a central role in delivering a wide range of projects, including major schemes at Concord College, the motor vehicle workshop at Telford College of Arts and Technology, and the Control Techniques Research & Testing Facility in Newtown. He also oversaw the warehouse and production facility at Invertek Drives in Welshpool, helping to deliver buildings that continue to support education, innovation, and industry across the region.
In true testament to his dedication and passion for construction, Elwyn returned in more recent years to support our team on further schemes, including YASA’s research facility at Offa’s Dyke Business Park and most recently, Shrewsbury School’s Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Managing Director, Steven Owen, remembers Elwyn as “one of the nicest and kindest people you could meet. He had a way of putting everyone in a good mood, and he inspired countless people across the construction industry. His presence on site made such a difference on every project, and we are all grateful for the time we had with him.”
Former Managing Director, Brian Evans, also reflected on Elwyn’s career during Elwyn’s retirement in 2019, “I noted the huge amount of respect that various trades on the project had for Elwyn over the years, not a bad word said anywhere. That in itself speaks volumes of his approach and achievements on the construction site.”

Elwyn leaves behind not only a legacy of high-quality projects, but also the lasting impact of his warmth, humour, and generosity of spirit.
Our thoughts are with Elwyn’s family and friends at this very sad time. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to work alongside him.
