It’s been a busy few weeks for our team as we’ve been out across Shropshire, Powys, and beyond, supporting local schools and helping young people discover the exciting career pathways available within the construction industry.
The Marches Academy Trust ‘Futures Fayre’
We kicked off by attending a big event as Sabrina Davies, Alex Taylor, and new carpentry apprentice, Luca Evans-Frater represented Pave Aways at The Marches Academy Trust Futures Fayre.
With students attending from 14 schools across the region (and nearly 2,000 young people in total!), it was a fantastic opportunity to speak with those keen to pursue careers within construction. The team were kept busy with fun brick-building time-trials, answering questions, and showcasing the wide range of roles the sector has to offer.

Behind the Scenes at the Wellington Orbit
Students from Telford College enjoyed a unique look inside our refurbishment of the Wellington Orbit. Led by Site Manager, Dave Coxill, and Managing Director, Steven Owen, the visit offered a real-world insight into a live construction environment, including how the team is navigating the complexities of the rapidly progressing works.
These hands-on experiences are invaluable for helping students understand the skills and teamwork that go into transforming community spaces.
Careers Support Across Local High Schools
On Tuesday 18th, Construction Director, Jamie Evans, and Marketing Coordinator, Sarah Jones visited Llanfair High School to meet Years 9, 10, and 11. They spent the day speaking with students about the many routes into construction – whether through apprenticeships, university pathways, or on-site training.

The week continued at pace with another school visit on Wednesday 19th, this time to Llanfyllin High School. Our new trainee site manager, Harvey Morris, currently studying at Wrexham University, and Sarah Jones, both former students of the school, enjoyed returning to share their experiences. They spoke with students across Years 9 to 11 about the wide variety of roles available in the industry, from site management to skilled trades and professional services.
Finally, on Thursday 20th, Training and Welfare Manager, Sabrina Davies, and business admin apprentice, Evie Vaughan, represented Pave Aways at Welshpool High School. They met students eager to learn more about the full breadth of opportunities available within construction, from hands-on site roles to administrative, technical, and managerial careers.

Supporting City & Guilds Students at William Brookes School
To finish off an action-packed week, Sabrina and Steven visited Year 10 and Year 11 students completing a City & Guilds Level 1 Construction Skills course. They shared insights into the construction industry, inspiring the next generation of skilled professionals.

As part of this ongoing partnership, Pave Aways will be offering monthly site visits, giving students hands-on experience on real building projects. Practical skills will be further developed through bricklaying projects alongside experienced construction staff, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world practice.
In addition, work experience opportunities will provide students with a chance to build confidence, develop practical skills in a professional setting, and learn about Pave Aways’ award-winning apprenticeship scheme. This initiative is a fantastic way for students to see first-hand how their learning can translate into a rewarding career in construction, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
