Lawley Village Academy Primary School
The design and build, single-storey expansion of Lawley Village Primary Academy has provided six new classrooms and a purpose-built nursery, alongside associated mechanical and electrical installations, groundworks, drainage and car park works. Externally, the development also included a new multi-use games area and grass sports pitch, enhancing opportunities for sport and outdoor learning.
The scheme has increased capacity by 210 primary pupil places and 30 nursery places from the 2024/25 academic year, enabling the school to become a two-form-entry primary, responding to sustained residential growth in the Telford area.
Works were undertaken within a fully operational primary school, requiring careful phasing, safeguarding controls and close collaboration with the academy’s leadership team.
Maintaining uninterrupted learning was paramount on this project. Deliveries, high-risk activities and service connections were programmed around the school day, with clear segregation between construction zones and pupil areas. Regular liaison meetings ensured transparent communication with staff and stakeholders throughout the programme.
The project was completed on time in August 2024, ready for the new academic year.
In line with REAch2’s sustainability objectives, the expansion incorporated energy-efficient systems and environmentally responsible materials. The new facilities featured solar PV panels, enhanced insulation and modern building services designed to reduce operational carbon and long-term energy consumption.
The scheme demonstrated how growth in educational provision could be delivered alongside measurable environmental responsibility — creating a modern learning environment with a reduced carbon footprint.
Cathie Paine, CEO of REAch2 Academy Trust, said:
At REAch2, we were committed to creating not only exceptional learning environments but also ones that reflected our dedication to sustainability. The expansion of Lawley Village Academy was a perfect example of our efforts to blend growth with green principles, ensuring future generations had access to both quality education and a healthy planet.

Claire Freestone, Headteacher at Lawley Village Academy, added:
This expansion allowed us to offer more children a place in our nurturing environment, while also providing them with a school that respected and protected the environment. We were really pleased with how the project came together and excited to see the benefits it brought to both our students and the wider community.
The project was led by Steven Owen, Contracts Manager, with Victoria Lawson overseeing commercial management as Quantity Surveyor. On site, Simon Gough managed day-to-day delivery within the live school environment as Site Manager, supported by Joe Harrison, Trainee Site Manager, who took responsibility for the nursery element of the scheme alongside Simon.
This scheme stood as a strong example of collaborative delivery, sustainable design and education-focused construction – building capacity while safeguarding the learning experience.
With associated mechanical and electrical works, groundworks, drainage, and car park works, the expansion project started in August 2023 and was completed in August 2024.
