Engineer takes centre stage in careers event

One of our site engineers has a starring role in a new video that aims to encourage the next generation of construction workers in Wales.

Jack Mitchell has taken part in the film that will be shown as part of the Career Wales Discover Engineering in Powys digital event on November 17.

Aimed at pupils in years 8, 9 and 10 from Powys schools, the day aims to give pupils an overview of the type of jobs that are available in engineering.

Jack was filmed on site by Sam Barker from Careers Wales. He spoke about his role, the routes to becoming a site engineer, his career journey from carpenter to setting out engineer, the skills he needed and the equipment and technology.

Jack gave a real insight into a day in the life as a site engineer including footage of him at work. He has worked on many of our projects in Powys including the new homes we built at Sarn, the new Welshpool Church in Wales School and the Bowling Green apartments in Newtown.

Jack said: “I really enjoyed taking part and sharing more about my career journey and what I typically do in a day. I hope it inspires the next generation of engineers to come into the construction industry and boost the skills we can benefit from in Powys.”
